There are about 3000 thousand students at our faculty. Our graduates work at railway administrations, locomotive works, locomotive-repair and car-repair plants, depots, research and design institutes, at enterprises providing heat and power supply, and others. Faculty of Mechanics and Energy is the oldest one among the faculties of the university. It was founded as early as in 1930.

Faculty of Mechanics and Energy trains specialists for education and qualification levels of Bachelor and Master and for education and qualification level of Doctor of Philosophy in 4 specialities: "Railway Transport", "Heat and power engineering", "Electrical energetics, Electrical engineering and Electromechanics", "Metrology and information-measuring technology".

The faculty provides all necessary equipment and facilities for training railway specialists that can work efficiently under present-day conditions and quickly adjust to changes in regulatory and engineering requirements of railway enterprises and other branches. We have proficient higher-education teaching personnel, appropriate logistic support, best practices and cutting-edge learning technologies. The faculty trains mechanical engineers, electricians, heat and power engineers and quality engineers. Presently the faculty consists of 6 departments, among them there are five graduating departments. Our graduates work as lecturers and teachers at universities, academies, technical schools and colleges, as heads of enterprises and locomotive depots, their deputies and others.

European programme, MieGVF project «Master of infrastructure and operation of high-speed transport in Russia and Ukraine» in compliance with TEMPUS IV (530281-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-FR-TEMP US-JPCR) has been introduced at the faculty. Students can get double degree: a state-recognized diploma in the main speciality and a diploma of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM, Paris, France) in the specialities: "Manager of infrastructure of high-speed transport" and "Manager of operation of high-speed transport".
