State-of-the-art teaching of the subjects is impossible without ongoing updating of training and methodology provision, also by developing interactive study courses. Over the last years the Department has developed and published curriculum on strength of materials and structural mechanics for students of all specialties, including those taking into account the modular knowledge system of the students, composed student's books on every course unit, and developed the training software. Student's books on strength of materials and structural mechanics approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, laboratory practical course of strength of materials and structural mechanics, and a problem book were published.
E. CHIKHLADZE. Strength of Materials: Student's book. - Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2011– 366 p.
This book is based on the educational program for the transport universities. It considers in detail the issues of calculation and extension of the scope of problems previously related to the elasticity theory. The student's book contains a lot of similar calculation examples which are helpful for better learning of study material. The text was revised for the second edition: some additions related to the dynamic characteristics of the construction materials were made. The book is intended for students of transport universities majoring in construction.
E. CHIKHLADZE. Structural Mechanics: Student's book. - Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2011. – 320 p.
This book is based on the educational program for the transport universities. It considers in detail the issues of calculation methods of frame structures and expansion of these methods for continual systems. The student's book includes a lot of similar calculation examples which are helpful for better learning of study material and practical application. The text was revised for the second edition: the method of movement on the matrix form and the finite element method were added. The book is intended for students of transport universities majoring in construction.
E. CHIKHLADZE, A. KISLOV, Yu. KITOV. Laboratory Course on Strength of Materials and Structural Mechanics: Work book – Kharkiv: KhNADU, 2008. – 236 p.
Information about materials, testing machinery, and measure systems is provided. Description of 29 laboratory works is given. Some historical facts, operations sequence, test questions, testing blanks are given for every work. The laboratory works include study of material and construction properties. The structural mechanics is represented by 6 works of study of stress-strain behavior of the truss and arch, as well as checking of fundamental theorems. The book is intended for full-time, part-time and distant students majoring in constriction and mechanical engineering, for engineers, researchers and postgraduates.
E. CHIKHLADZE, Yu. KITOV. Selected Problems on Strength of Materials with Solutions: Work book. - Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2011. – 231 p.
This book includes advanced problems and different approaches to solving, that contribute to better learning of strength of materials. In the second editions a few mistakes of the first edition were corrected and a number of new interesting problems were added.
E. CHIKHLADZE, M. VEREVICHEVA, Ye. GALAGURYA et al. Basics of Linear Elasticity, Plasticity and Creep Theory: Work book. – Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2010. – 149 p.
Basics of linear elasticity, plasticity and creep theory and the using those for solving one-dimensional, plane and 3D problems were presented in the course book. The general concepts and results are given in the logical order. The book is completeness, easy-to-understand and clear.
The student Olympiad “Strength Calculations” takes place at the University every year. The winners take place in the Ukrainian Olympiad on Strength of Materials, where they often take medal places among the students of transport universities.
In 2012, the methodic aid developed by Associate Professor O. Lobiak “Video lessons of Computer-Aided Systems for Construction Design” won the first prize as the best Electronic Student's book in the Academy.
Video lessons of Computer-Aided Systems for Construction Design. UkrSART, 2012.
The course of video lessons “Computer-Aided Systems for Construction Design” is intended to teach the students to perform calculations of building constructions and objects of railway transport competently and using modern software complexes, to develop correctly calculation schemes and analyze the calculation results. In the end of the course, a student should be able to model finite element calculation schemes of building constructions and objects of railway transport and assess their correctness and adequacy, to design the object of study using the construction systems and develop technical documentation.
In 2013, development of the electronic course of strength of materials began at the Department (by Associate Professor G. Vatulia, Associate Professor M. Verevicheva and Associate Professor S. Berestianska).
The electronic course of strength of materials. – Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2013.
In the course, students can learn necessary theoretic material, examples of assignment calculation, review laboratory works provided in the curriculum of the corresponding major. An option of testing on the topic, module or the whole course was provided. The electronic media also enables reviewing necessary normative or reference information, which can be useful during accomplishment of calculation and graphical assignments.
In 2014, the software for work with study-methodical complexes of subjects at the electronic media for students of all specialties, who are trained at the Department was developed.
Electronic training sets for of different courses. – Kharkiv: UkrSART, 2014.
The software for work with training materials of different courses was developed, namely: textbooks and teaching aids, lecture notes and instructions on performing calculation and graphical assignments and laboratory works, course projects for students of all specialties that are trained at the department.
In 2015, a student's book on dynamic calculations was published, recommended for publishing by the Scientific Board of the University.
E. CHIKHLADZE, S. BERESTIANSKA, I.&ndsp;LYSIAKOV. Dynamic Calculations of Constructions. Student's book. - Kharkiv: UkrSURT, 2015.
The book is written on the basis of the experience of teaching the structural mechanics course. The content of the student's book meets the modern requirements to the level of training of mechanical engineers. The book consists of three sections: oscillations of systems with one degree of freedom; oscillations of distributed mass systems; dynamic characteristics of building materials and constructions. The student's book contains not only theoretical information, nut also numerical examples that take into account the specifics of the calculation of transport structures. The book is intended for students and postgraduates of transport universities majoring in construction and mechanical engineering.
