The main areas of specialization of the department's scientific activity are recource-saving technologies at stations, the organization of work of railway stations in international transport corridors, the organization of customs control at railway stations, the improvement of the design of sorting devices, technological safety in the organization of train traffic, and improvement of the design of railroad stations and junctions.

Among the latest research projects carried out at the department, it can be noted:

• «Introduction of high-speed traffic of passenger trains on the Grebenka-Lozovaya area. Development of technology for servicing acess and fractional tracks of railway and industrial enterprises of the Lozovsky junction»;

• «Development of the Single technological process of the access road operation of the Closed Joint Stock Company» Donetskstal - Metallurgical Plant «and the Adjacent Station of the Donetsk State Enterprise» Donetsk Railway;

• «Investigation and determination of the capacity of the Sorting-2 station of JSC«Interpipe NTZ» access road.

In addition, together with the specialists of Ukrzaliznytsia and the Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after academician V. Lazaryan, the project of the GSTU «Guide for the design of stations and junctions on railways of gauge of 1520 mm» was developed, and together with the specialists of SE «Кievgiprotrans», Ukrzaliznytsia and DNUZHT im. academician V. Lazaryan developed the GOS «Rules and standards for the design of sorting devices on the railways of Ukraine».

The manual of Customs clearance and customs control on transport has been developed by the teachers of the WSO department for the disciplines "Organization of customs control", "Customs business on transport", "Control and customs clearance of cargo transportation".
